A lip flip involves injecting a type of abobotulinumtoxin A, such as Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin, into the top lip. The goal is to relax the orbicularis oris muscle, which helps form and shape the lips. The injection encourages the top lip to relax and “flip” outwards, giving the subtle illusion of a fuller lip. PLUS How Does the Correction Work? The correction of a gummy smile often involves Botox injections into the upper lip. The Botox works by relaxing the muscles that elevate the lip, thus reducing the upward mobility of the lip when smiling and minimising the exposure of gum tissue. The results are usually temporary, lasting about 3 to 4 months, and the procedure needs to be repeated to maintain the effects.
